Interesting. One time when one of my two dogs went and stayed at the vet for a long time (about two weeks or more - this was back in the 70's) the stay home dog wanted to attack the one that had been away. I thought the stay home dog was jealous and had been happy to have Mom all to himself. He was the "second" child so had never had me all to himself before. Perhaps some of his displeasure was due to scents!

Yes!! I think you're right on that. My bloodhound Chase would frantically sniff my pant legs below the knees everytime I came home after visiting the local shelter! The mixed scent of all those caged dogs was a hovering (close to the ground) cloud of dog scent that apparently clung to my pant legs. We often fail to realize how powerful dog and cat noses are!

I know, right? Like who would have thought that a powder used to make BEER could solve a problem between two hissy cats?

I know about this. My current cats always seem to know each other, though. They are littermates. They were in side by side kennels at the shelter, but they remembered each other. When just one goes to the vet and comes home, the other always offers a little cat comfort like a head bump. They’re also weirdly cat friendly to outside cats.

That is fantastic! It sounds like you won't need any Brewer's Yeast, but I bet they'd appreciate some nummy TEMPTATIONS cat treats! My cats craved those treats, acting like they were kitty crack!

Loki likes those, but not Thor (the pickiest cat ever). They both like the freeze dried salmon chunks from Costco, but Thor likes his dampened 🙄🙄🙄😒 I have both, because Loki will do Embarrassing Cat Tricks for treats.

Maybe? If not I’ll make one. He sits, sits up, hi five, and spin. There is A LOT of meowing involved.

Oh please do! It is NOT an easy thing to teach cats tricks. My cats would sit up / beg and wave their paws on cue, but that was the only thing I was able to teach them!

Well presented, Kat! I've only seen this happen once and very short lived, so it didn't register as anything to catalogue. It was mentioned to me when I took my foster kittens to the vet for the first time. There had been worry that their momma would reject them. All was good. Now I know how lucky I was!

That is fantastic that the vet's office warned you about this. I heard of a case where the vet failed to warn a cat owner about this behavior and his cats, over 6 months later, were STILL fighting. He actually filed a lawsuit against the vet for their failure to warn him of the behavior! I find that a bit overboard and not sure that he could win a suit because there are so many behaviors and "this could happen" with both cats and dogs that you'd almost need to send a BOOK home with each pet owner to warn them of things that can go wrong!
