"My heart’s desire was, and still is to this day, to see professional lost pet recovery services available for all pet owners in all communities." Ditto on that.
We are long overdue for a network of volunteers who set up feeding stations near motion detection cameras.
I created a Facebook page called "Wild Strays of Vancouver Washington" and trying to spread the word about cats in survival mode (lots of forests around here).
I think that we need to have volunteers who can become very knowledgeable about the territory habits of local animals and train others so that they can better predict where lost pets are likely to roam or where they're most likely to hide. They seem to avoid known territories.
Cats and dogs also have homing instincts and we need to figure out how they can sense us, how we should be behaving to attract them back home.
Panama, I'm SO glad you share the same vision (and obvious PASSION) for lost pet recovery work! I encourage you to take our 8-week online Missing Animal Response (MAR) 8-week Field Course through our network. You will learn SO MUCH about the human and animal behaviors and strategies and techniques for recoveries that will enable you to better coach pet owners needing this help! We need someone in southern Washington willing to help with lost cat recovery work and you'd BE PERFECT for this! Here's a link with more details about the course. You can either sign up for the "self paced" course and start training immediately, OR sign up for an upcoming class that will start in early January (not yet listed on our website). Here's that link: https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/mar-courses/
